Bear Mountain Bridge NY 1388 done 786 to go

I thought I would add another quick post since we are taking an extra day off. Sorry no pictures today.

As planned yesterday we were dropped off where we finished on Wed. Patty and I hiked 14 miles and over Bear mountain and came down into Bear Mountain State Park were we were met by a mass of humanity all trying to enjoy the 4th of July. We were told this state park is the most heavily used in the state of NY and there were thousands of people around the small lake and all over the picnic grounds. They also have a small zoo and the trail goes right through it. The zoo contains all the native animals from NY state and it was rather interesting listening to the comments from all the people from NY City as they walked through this zoo.

The reason we are taking today off is that Patty really had a rough day yesterday and was not feeling very well. She had all the symptoms of Lymes Disease and she had pulled a deer tick off her leg back on June 3. She never did develop the standard bulls eye rash, where the tick bit her, but she did have a rash in a different location. We went into a brand new walk in clinic this morning and with the symptoms she had and the possibility that another tick may have bit her causing the rash we all thought it was best if she went on the antibiotic just in case it is Lymes. She is doing fine, although still not feeling 100%. We will have the results of the blood test on Tues. She is still planning on hiking out tomorrow if she feels better. It sure is nice to be with friends when something like this happens. Art and Susan have been very good to us and we will have slept in the same bed for 5 nights in a row. We probably needed the break anyway.

We had a good day off on Thursday touring New Paltz, NY and going up to the Mohonk Hotel on Thursday evening, check out http://www.mohonk.com

Patty and I are both ready to get back on the trail and continue north. We still hope to finish in early September if all goes well.

I will keep you posted on Patty's condition, but she is tough as nails.

Hi!
Thank God for Art & Susan! I am so glad that they are there for this leg of your journey. Patty, be careful with the Lymes thing. We will keep you in our prayers. The antibiotics will hopegfully do the trick. We had a fourt of July party with the neighbors our here and Garry and I wilol head into Middle Fork Lake. We hope the snow will allow it or we'll end up at Rainbow. Remember that one? It can be a bugger in a snowstorm. The Unruhs are going to town it for a while. karin just got out from 10 days of guiding and wants a bed. We obviously are not as tough as you two. The summer is going fast now. I hope the heat doesn't frag you down. Jeff, you baby you sweet wife! Take care,
Love,
Jo % Gar

Patty, please take care of yourself!!!Lymes is nothing to mess with. Consider taking another round of antibiotics.
The illness part of this report has me concerned.

We've had a beautiful week of weather here in LF. We have been enjoying the pool. Lots of of new things blooming in the prairie. Your pumpkins and tomatoes are growing well. We have watered them a few times but the whole area really needs an inch or two of rain.

Peter's mom is very ill and is expected to die in the next few weeks. He just spent a week out there. We will probably make another trip to CA shortly.

Take care of yourselves. Deb

Hi Patty and Jeff,

You are really making good time on your journey. We are thinking about you often. We had a 4th of July gathering here with family. Bobby and family and Bill and Irene joined us.

Fr. Tim is here and sends his greetings, prayers, and concerns on the Lymes. I picked one off of me in early June also. They and the wood ticks are really thick here.

Jerry

Jeff and Patty,

Just a note to say "Hi". I am visiting Jerry and Kathy this evening. I hope you are doing well. I'm sorry to hear that you may have been exposed to lymes disease, Patty. I'm glad you were able to get an antibiotic. I will keep you in my prayers for God's healing. It sounds like you are having an ineresting trip. It is a real accomplishment to hike that far. Your siblings are doing fine. I went to Joe's graduation party and on the 4th of July I saw Bill and Bob at Jerry's gathering. I'm happy I have this opportunity to greet you. Best wishes on the rest of your trip. Love and prayers, Fr. Tim.

Wow! you guys are making progress. You sure deserve the few days of relative rest. The pics are amazing. Patty take care of yourself. The doxycycline ( which is what I assume they gave you for Lymes) will make you more sensitive to the sun. Also take it with a big glass of water or it can irritate your esophagus. We are thinking of you often. YOu both look like you need to eat more, so enjoy Susan's cooking.
