Just recieved our food from Cache Lake Foods in Bemidji and Patty wanted to show it off. We purchased 62 Suppers and 40 Breakfast meals from them along with some misc. packages of vegetables. We have also put together another 60 dinner meals from items purchased locally and foods we have dried. To give you an example of what we have put together I will list a few of the meals. All are designed to be cooked in one pot of boiling water. We have also purchased 6 number 10 cans of meals and deserts from Mountain House. All of this food will be shipped to various Post Offices along the way and we will supplement what we ship with food we will purchase at towns along the trail. Here is a list of meals we have prepared:
Hawaiian Chicken, Chicken nut stir pot, Hamburger Helper, Minnestroni with hamburger, Spagetti, Shrimp with pasta, ham and scalloped potatoes and peas, ham with mashed potatoes , Rice and beef brocoli, chicken and stuffing, Chedder potatoes and ham, Ham with stuffing, Shrimp chowder, shrimp brocoli, chicken and rice, shrimp and macaroni and other various combinations using meats and shrimp we have dehydrated and items we have purchased at the grocery store. Patty kept track and the average cost for the meals we have put together and it is approximately $ 4.50 each. This is generally cheaper than what you can buy freeze dried meals for at retail and we have probably included portions that are a little larger than what you could buy. The weight of most of our meals is between 8-12 ounces. The general rule that we have followed is 2 pounds of food per person per day. I am sure we will make comments on the food in blogs once we get going. I wanted to see if I could post pictures directly from the camera and with the help of son Christopher found out we could do so. Stay tuned for future updates on planning and equipment we will take.
